Today the kneeling man from the 1st photo is celebrating his birthday.
Back in April 2015 Valery Zaluzhny was mourning the death of officer Volodymyr Shpak.
Since then Zaluzhny's become Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's army and national hero who's leading the fight against Russia.
