China has been identified as the main external supplier of engines and navigation systems for Russia’s Shahed drones, which have been used in attacks on Ukrainian cities. A Chinese company shipped over 685,500 engine components to Drake LLC, a drone manufacturer based in Alabuga that is subject to U.S. sanctions, between June and August 2024.
