63-year-old Major General Botashev, who before retiring commanded an aviation regiment, was reportedly dropping bombs and unguided missiles from a Su-25 when he was shot down above Popasna with a Stinger MANPOD. Ukraine's General Staff reported a Su-25 was shot down in Luhansk Oblast on 22 May.
