Ukrainian appeal of 1919 shows volunteer help for military always mattered: "Citizen! You have 2 pairs of boots. Give 1 for Ukrainian soldiers. Communists or Denikin will arrive and take both. Peasant! You have lots of cloth. Cut 1-2 meters to sew shirts for Ukrainian soldier."
