On July 17th 2014, Russia ordered to down civilian plane MH-17, killing hundreds of nationals, Dutch mostly. For the West, which largely turned a blind eye to the annexation of Crimea and invasion of Luhansk and Donetsk, this served as a wake up call to introduce sanctions
