On 24 August 1991, Ukraine's Parliament adopted the Declaration of Independence, re-establishing Ukraine's sovereignty. Many believed the goal of dissidents and fighting in 1917-1921 & 1939-1953 was finally achieved, thinking Moscow would not attempt to return. #SpotlightEP
