More than 8,000 soldiers who had deserted have voluntarily returned to service. Of these, over 3,000 did so in the last week after a new law came into force guaranteeing the return of all cash payments and benefits, according to Saiyan Sevak, head of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office.
