For Putin, to secure Belarus as a buffer zone and bridgehead to pressurize Ukraine is much more important than sending a few thousand unskilled Belarusian soldiers to die. He can lose both the bridgehead and Lukashenka, who turned out to be the only ally in this wild adventure.
