Previous Russian attempts to cross wet obstacles were unsuccessful. Neither were the Ukrainian crossings of the Dnieper, for that matter. Yet the initial landing appears to be holding and expanding. Talk of a bridgehead is beginning to emerge, just north of Kupiansk.
