This was the view from my bedroom window onto Peace Street (Vulytsya Myru) in central Bakhmut, eastern Ukraine, 13 years ago this weekend. Snowy, peaceful and home to 80,000 people. Fast forward to today, and the city has been destroyed and occupied by Russia. Population: 0.
