Reportedly, a Russian position was captured by Ukrainian forces during the ongoing offensive in Kherson Oblast, according to Ukrainian journalist Volodymyr Zolkin.
My theory on what’s happening: the Ukrainian military has found a weak spot in Russian defenses in Kherson Oblast (possibly on the southern bank of the Inhulets River) and decided to deliver a strike. I think it’s at the tactical level, but we’ll see.
Olaf Scholz pledges to help #Ukraine, speaks of responsibility. "I can, for example, imagine that #Germany will assume special responsibility in terms of building up 's artillery and air defense capacities," he said, vowing support for #Kyiv for "as long as it takes".
On 8/17 this piece described how Ukraine was “prepping” or “shaping” the battlefield against undermanned RU forces. UA has been brilliant in further stretching those RU BTGs to the breaking point. We’ll now see many small UA attacks, but not a major counteroffensive…yet.

There are many volunteers and forced volunteers from the self-proclaimed Donbass republics who are currently on the front line in defensive positions like this one. I don't know how they'll react when they'll face a lot of motivated Ukrainians
