Evening with tea, fireplace, and curfew on Jan 1
The evening would not be complete w/o tea and a fireplace. We stayed several hours but it was time to get home before the curfew. The roads were empty, checkpoints not busy. We put gas in our car (I try to keep the tank full at all times) and went to bed that was our Jan 1. 7/7

My sister and her husband build their house from scratch. It was finished just before the war. During the battle of Kyiv, Russian troops we a couple of miles away on one side of the village, while the Ukrainian troops were a couple of miles on the other. Neighbors’ 4/

Candles bring warmth to Kyiv apartment without heating
In our home in Kyiv, there is none. So we use candles again. They feel warm and make the apartment cozy. We have water but no heating. For now, it is not a problem cause our building walls are warm after several days of heating. 2/

Russian drones bomb Ukrainian cities and university on New Year
Ukrainians’ safety depends on these troops. Tonight Russia is yet again sending drones over to Ukraine to bomb peaceful cities and civilian infrastructure. Yesterday it attacked and damaged a university campus next to my home. Just so that we never forget this New Year Eve.

I have a wish for this new year. Peace in Ukraine. A just peace that prevents future wars, returns our land, and provides us with the basic human rights: to life and security, and freedom of choice of how to live our lives. That’s why we must and will win.
