Malaparte: Frozen Russian Corpses Used as Road Signs During Operation Barbarossa

In Kaputt, Malaparte recounts how, during Operation Barbarossa, German soldiers used the corpses of Russian soldiers as road signs. It was -30 degrees. The frozen bodies were propped up standing by the roadside, their arms outstretched towards the desired direction.
