It is a defeat. Tactically, the Ukrainians had deployed 3 brigades (12th, 56th & 36th) plus the Azov Battalion (see @jomini) along with various volunteers and militiamen: between 5,000 and 8,000 men. The Russians claim the surrender of 2,450 men. The figure seems very high.
