If successful, Russian forces will eventually encounter a Ukrainian line of defense at Bakhmut-Siversk. This would push the frontline further west, but Ukrainian positions around Slovyansk and Kramatorsk remain heavily fortified. Russian forces have made little progress pushing from Izyum.
