Zmiinyi (Snake/Serpent) island is a barren almost flat rock near the Danube Delta only 35 km off Odesa Oblast's coast. The battle for Zmiinyi Island started on February 24, and lasted until July 1 when Ukraine drove out the Russians from the island:
