7/ The Ukrainian withdrawal would have allowed the Russians to push directly against Vesela Dolyna, a near-suburb of Bakhmut. Thus, both at Soledar and at Bakhmouth, the Russians would have reached the crest of the slopes overlooking the thalweg. This would allow them to fire in direct line of sight.
