Just two days later, this proved to be a major Ukrainian victory. The entire pocket collapsed, Kupyansk was taken, and Russian forces were forced to hastily retreat from Izyum. Their attempts to reinforce with the 3rd Army Corps and the 90th Tank Division came too late and failed.
