At the start of the full-scale war, Serhiy was teaching history at a school in Kropyvnytskyi, which gave him an 'ironclad' deferment from military service as an educator. However, in June 2022, he went to the military enlistment office and voluntarily enlisted in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
