Mines and unexploded ordnance hinder Ukraine’s advance

There were mines and unexploded cluster munitions in large numbers. Russian forces were still sustaining artillery fire late into October. Ukrainian units were both exhausted and lacked the necessary support to advance easily. Casualties had also been significant up to that point.
