Ukraine’s Independence: Declared in 1991, Defended Today on the Frontlines

On 24 August 1991, Ukraine declared independence as deputies raised the blue-yellow flag in Parliament and thousands filled the streets. Today, as Russia wages war, that same flag flies on the frontlines, proving Ukraine’s freedom was never granted but is defended every day.
