Sorry, but that's not true. "Wick" or "wych" usually comes from the Anglo-Saxon wīċ (dwelling place or village), or in some cases from the unrelated Norse word vík (bay or inlet). Some places may have practiced salt production but that's not what the placenames mean. There's
