It took me a while to understand why the wooden area west of Izium was so interesting. But this is probably where they are/was hiding supplies and had command posts etc. Things that would be hard to manage in the town like fuel.

RU forces have most likely stockpiled A LOT of supplies in the Izium area for this offensive. I think the UA advance from the west could possibly be what saves Slovyansk. I must say I'm extremely impressed by this move.

All this is why RU forces need to stay in the area north of Kharkiv. I believe RU forces have reinforces their defenses on the approach to Kup'yans'k. I think UA forces are trying to get to the east of the SD river up by the RU border.
