Last night, a Mariupol woman who had just arrived in Ukrainian-held territory told me that when she and 20 neighbors tried to leave the basement after weeks to escape the city, the first two out were shot dead. Yet the rest decided to risk it anyway to get out of “hell.”
Despite Russia’s denials, satellite images obtained by The New York Times confirmed that bodies of massacred civilians lay in the streets of Bucha for weeks, while the town was in full control of the Russian troops.
Despite overwhelming evidence of the massacre, the Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that “not a single local in Bucha” suffered any harm while the town was under control of the Russian Armed Forces.
Russian state media churned out ridiculous assertions, claiming that the corpses depicted in the footage from Bucha were “moving their arms,” “getting their limbs out of the way to avoid the wheels of military vehicles” or “getting up and walking away.”
Putin’s Minions Demand Grotesque ‘Rewards’ for Mass Killers: "During war, we need to support the Russian warrior.” After the Bucha massacre shocked the world, the Kremlin’s henchmen push for pay raises and debt forgiveness for Russia's murderous troops.
According to Petro Andryushchenko, an advisor to the real mayor of Mariupol, the Russian military, who control part of Mariupol, assisted Ivashchenko's show. The ceremony had no legal meaning: That's not how mayors are elected.
Pro-Russian party stages fake mayor elections in partly occupied Mariupol. Kostyantyn Ivashchenko, a local council member from the pro-Russian party Opposition Platform, was pronounced "mayor" of Mariupol on April 4 during a meeting of party members.
Some of the bodies were beside what appears to be an impact crater. Others were near abandoned cars. Three of the bodies lay beside bicycles. Some have their hands bound behind their backs… The victims were scattered over more than half a mile.
