9/11 The West bears responsibility for not doing everything in its power to help Ukraine defend itself in this unjust war. However, Ukraine has also been slow to mobilize troops, and is now facing the consequences on the front lines. Ultimately, pointing fingers won't help.
Ultimately, it is up to Ukraine to decide how to organize its military mobilization and who to mobilize. However, Ukraine will need to replace losses in its existing units.
7/11 Ukraine is fighting for its survival, and it's understandable that the country wants to protect its future generations. Given the inadequate support from its allies, it is also understandable that Ukraine is doing everything it can to save its young people amid this war.
While it's true that Ukraine's forces face manpower challenges, the West's failure to provide sufficient and timely financial and military aid is also shameful. Furthermore, the restrictions placed on Ukraine have been both useless and unfair.
It is true that most of Ukraine's frontline units are short on infantry due to unreplenished losses. Ukraine has not mobilized enough men and has likely diverted too many mobilized troops to form new units rather than replacing losses in existing units.
According to the official, the "pure math" of Ukraine's situation shows it needs more troops in the fight. The official noted that Ukraine is not currently mobilizing or training enough soldiers to replace battlefield losses and keep pace with Russia's growing military.
3/11 A senior Biden administration official, speaking anonymously, said the outgoing administration wants Ukraine to lower the military mobilization age from 25 to 18, to expand the pool of fighting-age men for its war with russia.
Both of these points are true and finger-pointing won't help solve these issues: 1) Western military and financial aid to Ukraine has been insufficient and too slow, and 2) Ukraine needs to mobilize more men to replace losses in existing units
